ME2NITE

Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, Militia Rashad began her music journey out of a deep need to create and express herself. Her sound blends alternative EDM, hip-hop, and rock-infused electronic music, influenced by artists like Tina Turner, Joan Jett, Rico Nasty, and Shirley Caesar.

Her vocal study began around age 5 in her church choir, where she first learned which sounds kept her engaged (read: awake) during long services and which lacked excitement. She later expanded her musicianship as a snare drummer for her church’s marching drumline, developing not only rhythm and stage presence through live performance, but a finger-drumming habit as well. She sometimes spent middle and high school class time secretly writing cadences. 

Though largely self-taught, she has had the privilege of receiving vocal instruction from Dr. Yoo Sun Na, acclaimed and lauded opera singer, at Bunker Hill Community College.

She has performed in various settings, bringing energy and presence to every stage. Her top performances include Bishop’s Lounge in Northampton, The Jungle in Somerville, Femme Bar in Worcester and Midway Cafe in Jamaica Plain, all in Massachusetts. 

Militia is pursuing an Associate’s Degree of Liberal Arts at Bunker Hill Community College. Upon graduation she plans to continue her studies at Berklee College of Music.
